In October of 2018, the music visual debuted on YouTube receiving over 24,000 streams worldwide.

January 1st of 2019, Amari J released his first pop/hip-hop single titled “She Know” featuring rapper Chalie Money, which was supposed to be one of the biggest singles for the album set by the record label. This single was an upbeat pop tempo with a hip hop sentiment, many in the industry compared to Tyga & Chris Brown’s “Ayo”. The song “She Know” was set to be released with a music video, sources say Warner Music Group couldn’t agree on a promotional budget so therefore it was never released. This caused the single by itself to only reach roughly 30,000 streams on a song that could have reached way more. This was another issue Amari had with the record label at the time, this also could be why he parted ways shortly after in 2019, but for now this is all speculation.

March 20th of 2021, Amari J released his biggest solo video “Let’s Get Rich”, this was the lead single off his 2021 album “Road 2 Redemption” this song has a “synth-laced”, pop sound, delivered over an uptempo beat, further described as a “club banger”, written by Amari J. The song generated over 50,000 streams on all platforms independently. The accompanying music video was directed by 400HDFilmz in Los Angeles, California. The music video has received very positive critical reception, it was featured on “All Urban Central” topping over 30,000 streams on its youtube platform alone.

June 21st of 2021, Amari J released one of his biggest videos “Tapped In”. This song was special because it was a unique new style & also inspired by the late rapper Bris. The art work was done by True GFX who did most of Bris art work for many songs. The video was shot in Sacramento, California by MKY Visualz who has shot many of Mac J, & EBK Young Joc’s music videos. Amari made sure he gave Bris his credit unlike most artists, who will steal an artist’s style and run with it. The beat producer was also from Sacramento. After the video was released, “Tapped In” soon became a local clothing line starting in Northern California. It was featured in smoke shops in Petaluma, Stockton, Oakland, Los Angeles & Las Vegas.

In 2021 Amari J released his most recent album titled “Road 2 Redemption”, this album title reflected the direction of life change for Amari. The album title went hand and hand with his new movement of youth activism with music.

Youth Activism:

In 2019, Amari J decided to use his platform to be an advocate for helping inspire & motivate the youth in the right direction, also educating them on life goals, staying in school, as well as current life issues. He began his journey starting as a mentor with kids who make music, it turned into something greater as school districts, programs and non-profit organizations began to seek his help with students across the west coast as they heard his impact. Amari J puts his heart in his work and wants to make a difference in the generation being part of the solution and not the problem, since he started this work he has received countless amounts of love and support from staff members, parents, & the community. He was able to continue what the late California rapper Nipsey Hussle started, using his platform of music to keep the youth out of trouble showing them there are many ways to go about life, especially kids surrounded in gang inflicted neighborhoods. He has been invited and attended several youth conferences in Los Angeles & Oakland, California. He is working on creating several community youth programs in conjunction with grant contacts from the state of California to stop violence and raise awareness.

Controversy:

On February 14th of 2013, Amari J released the mixtape “I Put Her On” featuring r&b singer Ray J. This caused major controversy due to Ray J just releasing titled single “I Hit It First” who sources say, the song was directed to Kim Kardashian, the cover art for the single also features a pixelated image of Kardashian, It also made controversy for Amari J due to his album title and having similar tactics to Ray J. Rumors stated, Amari J was dating import model Jenn Q at this time from San Jose, California. It’s rumored that she is the pixelated artwork for Amari’s mixtape “I Put Her On”. Both artists deny any allegations & rumors pertaining to this situation. Companies and social media back lashed the mixtape through social media indicating he was “jealous” & “using her for leverage and fame”. Even though Amari claims this to be untrue, It still led to receiving bad publicity on still a very successful project.

In May of 2017, rumors circulated that Bobby Luv who is one of Chris Brown’s top platinum songwriters for many hit singles collaborated on two single’s titled “Episode” & “Turn Up Is Real”, after the release of both singles, Amari J was invited to Chris Brown’s “Party” tour in Las Vegas. Though Amari J & Bobby Luv were spotted in photos backstage in concert, & front row of the performance we are unable to confirm anything more from that night.

August 13th of 2017, Amari J was called for a collaboration with Oakland rapper DB Tha General on the album “Young OG 3”. This album also featured Oakland rapper Kurt Diggler, who was featured on a track entitled “Swear Ta God” released September 25th of 2013 involving controversial rap beef between rappers DB Tha General & Philthy Rich. The album Young OG 3, received over 1,200,000 streams online for two featured singles “Run Nat In” & “All For a Bag”. The fall out between DB & the singer began after the release of the “Run Nat In” music video. Recent allegations were made by the rapper through social media saying that Amari J had stolen lyrical content from this album, which was untrue. Amari J was acquitted of all charges in 2018, the evidence solidified the lyrical content was not stolen, for it was a partnership agreement between the artists that the album was to be released under both parties at that time. September 6th 2017 the singer released his version of the “Young OG 3” album entitled “I’m Pushin 2” a sequel to his 2013 release. Even though, Amari wasn’t guilty of any plagiarism. Somehow, his version of the album “I’m Pushin 2” disappeared from Apple Music, sources say this was an indication from Amari J & his team to cut ties completely with DB Tha General.

In 2018 more controversy surrounded the artist with major recording labels Atlantic Records and ADA, a distributor of Warner Music Group. Due to contract negotiations not being met, Amari J claims “the allegations perpetuated by the media & any past individuals I’ve worked with are untrue, and an attempt to distort my character, and to destroy my legacy that I’m working so hard to build.”
